3 Age-Defying DIY Crystal Mists That’ll Save Your Skin This Summer
The instant key to cool and youthful skin? A crystal-charged spray. “Crystals emit negative ions, invisible molecules that have positive rebalancing effects on the skin,” says crystal expert Amy Leigh Mercree, author of The Mood Book: Crystals, Oils, and Rituals to Elevate Your Spirit ($11.70, Amazon). And when soaked in water, they infuse the liquid with their age-defying energy.
Find the crystal for the issue you are dealing with below, then simply steep the stone in a bowl of cold water and let it sit in direct sunlight for one hour then strain the water into a spray bottle. (Store in the fridge and use as needed.) All it takes is a few spritzes to the face for a refreshed and rejuvenated you!
Bloated Face
Crystal to try: Aquamarine ($2-$30, Etsy)
Hot dogs, fizzy drinks and soaring temperatures can cause your body to hold on to water, leaving your eyes, cheeks and neck looking super puffy. Healers turn to aquamarine. Its cleansing energies release retained fluids, shrinking swelling in a jiffy.
Boost the benefits: Steep the stone in pre-brewed green tea instead of water, says Mercree. The tea’s caffeine has a diuretic effect that also eliminates water retention in the face.
Saggy Skin
Crystal to try: Rose quartz ($4.50-$35.96, Etsy)
The sun’s skin-drying rays put lax skin and wrinkles into harsh focus. Rose quartz can help firm it, suggests Mercree. “The stone’s energy invites oxygen into the skin, which boosts circulation to tone sagginess.”
Boost the benefits: Add 6 drops of almond oil to the rose quartz water. Enhanced by the energy of the crystal, almond oil’s vitamin A stimulates collagen and elastin production to firm and smooth skin.
Ruddiness
Crystal to try: Jade stone ($9-$15, Etsy)
Painful red cheeks from a sunburn or heat-triggered rosacea? Jade’s healing energies work to soothe irritation and repair skin damage. Plus, when sprayed on skin, the chilled elixir’s cool-to-the-touch effect eases inflammation to reduce redness fast.
Boost the benefits: Mix 6 drops of lavender oil into the jade water. The oil is a vasoconstrictor that shrinks the blood vessels on skin’s surface, further easing any facial flushing.
