I Tried Kristen Bell’s Go-To Gel For Bold Blonde Eyebrows

As I’ve gotten older, my eyebrows have seemed to fade and just get patchier and patchier. Anyone else? I used to fill them in with dark brow products, but I recently went back to the blonde hair I had as a child. So I’ve been on the hunt for the perfect brow gel to fill in my minimal brows, but also match my new lighter hue.

Enter Kristen Bell, one of the world’s most famous blondes. Or rather, her regular makeup artist, Simone Siegl, who spilled the beans to Refinery29 about some products she and the actress rely on when getting her gussied up for red carpets and appearances. I instantly zoomed in on the eyebrow gel, Lashfood’s Browfood ($88, Sephora). Seigl is a fan because of the small fibers in the gel. “It gives her brows a natural-looking, bushier shape,” she explained.

As a regular viewer of The Good Place and the latest reboot of Veronica Mars, I am quite familiar with Bell’s bold, yet not overly darkened blonde brows and I was intrigued. One of my biggest pet peeves when it comes to finding brow fillers for blondes is the tendency to have an orange-tint. I’m not sure why beauty manufacturers seem to think all blondes are secretly also a little bit ginger, but it’s happened to me with so many brands I’ve trusted regardless.

The dark blonde seemed like it would be more on the ashy side that I was looking for, so I got my hands on a tube and I was excited to see how it would look. It was a bit difficult to get the hang of manipulating the brush so the product was applied evenly and didn’t clump. But once I figured out to swipe away some of the excess gel back into the tube, the application process was pretty easy. The gel clings to my brows without feeling stiff and they don’t appear overly drawn in.

Unfortunately, there is that telltale orange poking through again. Bell’s makeup artist might pair it with another product to produce the ashier look she achieves, or use perhaps she uses the brunette option. It’s a little upsetting that “dark blonde” doesn’t seem to ever actually mean dark blonde. That said, I’m not totally disappointed in the results. It’s less of an offensive orange than other products I’ve tried, but I will still be on the lookout for my perfect quick-fix for filling in my brows.

If you have rosier hued hair you might want to give Browfood a shot. One review on Sephora wrote, “I am forever on the hunt for an easy brow product to match my strawberry blonde/red hair. The dark blonde shade is perfect!” Another also mentioned that the product is great at covering up gray hairs, too.

Here’s to finding the best brows for one and all!
