Mom of Six Donates 17 Feet of Hair with Results the Internet Is Eating Up
As parents, the only thing we can do is try to be the best role models possible for our kids, and one mom is setting the bar pretty darn high.
Phoebe Kannisto and her family—which includes seven children—recently made their latest trip to the salon a family affair. Kannisto and her six boys visited Hizair Hair Salon to donate their locks, which totaled 17 feet combined. Now, that’s a lot of hair!
“I am so proud of my boys,” Kannisto wrote on her Facebook page. “They have been picked on and teased by everyone from their peers, to grown adults, but they didn’t let that stop them. They had a goal and stuck to it. They are such amazing role models to their little sister. She watched in awe.”
Kannisto shared a stunning photo set of her family before and after the big chop, and it’s totally heartwarming. In descending order by height is Mom; Andre, 10; twins Silas and Emerson, both 8; and triplets Herbie, Reed, and Dexter, 5. Kannisto’s youngest child and her only daughter, 2-year-old Marah Taylor, isn’t pictured.
Donating a combined 17 feet of hair is totally worthy of applause, but we’re doubly impressed by Phoebe after learning she’s raising so many multiples! We don’t want to know what a process those diaper changes must have been.
The Kannistos gave their hair to Children with Hair Loss, a company that helps kids suffering from medically-related hair loss. The family’s heartfelt donation was spurred own by a tragedy that hit close to home.
“Three years ago, my friend lost her son to cancer,” she told the Huffington Post. “He was a twin and very close in age to my twins. On the first anniversary of his passing, my three oldest boys donated their hair in his memory. Since their donation two years ago, our lives have continued to be touched by cancer. It’s everywhere. My boys want to help, and donating their hair is how they do it.”
What an amazing story! Today, the family is already planning for their next donation.
