Emily Morgan wasn't expecting much more than fun during the August cruise vacation that she and her husband had booked to celebrate her daughter's third birthday. The pregnant mom, due in December, was feeling good and had been cleared to travel by her doctor.
So she was floored when she started having contractions two days into the cruise. Even though the doctor on board begged her to hold back until the cruise ship reached Puerto Rico, Morgan knew she couldn't--and gave birth four months early.
At first, the medical personnel told her the baby, weighing 1 and 1/2 pounds, was stillborn. Later, they told Morgan he'd survived but wasn't expected to live long. Still, the mom insisted on seeing him. As she told the Associated Press, "I had felt him kicking. I felt the process of him getting bigger. I said, 'I'm going to see him, I don't care if he's alive or if he's dead.'"
When she finally saw him 45 minutes after he was born, he was wrapped in towels and had a tiny oxygen mask on his face. But he was crying--a good sign that his lungs were strong.

Barely halfway through her pregnancy, Emily Morgan found herself in premature labor on a cruise ship in the eastern...
Miraculously, the baby stayed alive in a makeshift incubator as the ship sped to Puerto Rico. There tiny Haiden spent a few days before being airlifted to a children's hospital in Miami.
For now, he's still in the Miami hospital, but the family hopes to have him transferred to Utah in a month or so. And though the hospital bills are mounting, they feel blessed. Their tiny son has survived big odds: Micro-preemies like Haiden born so far away from a hospital have a less than 10 percent chance of making it through.
