Studies are a wonderful thing. Without them we might not know important information such as who is smarter—dog or cat owners, why microwaving your tea is better for you, or the exact time you should ditch the denim.
While no one we know has been asking that last question, a group based out of the U.K. has decided to answer it for us anyway. So just how long can you hold on to your favorite jeans before it's time to donate or dump them? The day you blow out the candles on your 53rd birthday cake, apparently.
MUST-SEE: This Is What Your Wrinkles Mean
The study, conducted by U.K. parcel delivery service CollectPlus, surveyed 2,000 Brits who agreed jeans are reserved for the younger folk—"younger" being anyone aged 52 and under, that is. Of course, we couldn't disagree more. Heck, some of us have probably been wearing jeans for longer than the people who were surveyed have been alive!
"It's surprising to see our research reveals that many people think jeans are the reserve of the younger generation, suggesting that we should all put denim back on the shelf at the age of 53," Catherine Woolfe, marketing director at CollectPlus told the Daily Mail. "Denim is such a universal material and with so many different styles available it's a timeless look that people of all ages can pull off."
We couldn't agree more, Catherine!
The age range of those surveyed and other finer details of the study are unknown—and of course, this is all a matter of opinion and not based on any sort of fact or exact science—so it's important to take this news with a grain of salt.
Our take? Jeans are jeans, and they're appropriate no matter how old or young you are. We'll keep rocking our stonewashed finest at any age if we so choose, thank you very much!
