Melissa McCarthy just made history as the first woman to win the Comedic Genius Award at the MTV Movie Awards. But it's the victory speech she made that has everyone talking.
After crowd-surfing her way to the stage, McCarthy told the audience that she may be the first woman to receive the award, but she wasn't the first to deserve it. Then, she got personal about her adoration for funny women who paved the way for her.
"I think I am a walking human patchwork of all the remarkable, funny women who I have loved and studied over the years," McCarthy said.
The hilarious actress opened up about why comediennes of years past like Gilda Radner and Lucille Ball inspired her so much.
"[Women who] taught me not to fear being the butt of the joke," she said. "Or not worry about being likable or perfect and to lovingly go for the kill."
We're glad, because we wouldn't have her any other way. Many congratulations, Melissa!
