In an exclusive interview with First for Women, busy actress, Food Network star, and cookbook author Valerie Bertinelli shares strategies that keep her calm, confident, and radiant in her own skin at 57.
These days, Valerie is spending a lot of time in the kitchen and couldn’t be happier about it. But cooking (and tasting!) recipes day after day for her hit Food Network show and new cookbook has come with challenges. “I’m trying to adjust to this life and how tempting everything is,” Valerie tells First For Women.
“It’s a struggle to try to take the weight off at my age, so I’m reevaluating what I’m putting in my body without cutting anything out or feeling guilty when I do indulge,” the former Hot in Cleveland actress explains.
Valerie credits taking a more relaxed approached to dieting with helping her feel good in her skin even if her weight fluctuates. “We have to be kinder to ourselves,” she tells First For Women. “It might be a lifelong journey, but I’m hoping I’ll get to that point where no matter what the scale tells me, I feel love for this body that’s been so good for me for 57 years.”
And to keep up that healthy perspective, Valerie relies on a happy energy. “I think we need to find the humor in so much — especially now in the world,” Valerie muses. “Laughter is everything.”
