Grab-and-go single-serving smoothies are one of our favorite food trends of the year: Easy on the wallet, heavy on nutrition, they’re a simple way to supercharge your busy mornings. But that doesn’t mean you need any special tools or gadgets to make them--all you need is a blender and a standard Mason jar.
Don’t get us wrong, the Magic Bullet is genius. But this hack will save you from spending the extra money if you already have a perfectly good blender at home. Simply unscrew the bottom of your blender’s pitcher, fill your Mason jar with your smoothie ingredients, and twist on the blender blade attachment. It will fit any standard-sized Mason jar--but not the wide-brimmed kind. Pop it in your blender and make your drink as usual. When it’s done blending to perfection, enjoy it straight from the Mason jar or pop on a canning lid to take your smoothie on the road. Bonus: You won't have to clean your blender.
Watch this short video to see exactly how it works, and save some time on hectic mornings by prepping these smoothie packets.
This trick should never be used when you're blending hot liquids. The temperature creates pressure changes in the jar that can be dangerous. Always use your standard pitcher attachment when working with hot liquids. When blending smoothies or even grinding dry goods like spices and coffee, be sure to thoroughly check your Mason jars for chips or cracks before using them with your blender. Even if there aren't visible nicks, pulse the contents carefully first to minimize breaking risk.
