Talk about crazy! Justin and Todd Kalk are brothers. The two are also police officers on the San Antonio police department and big animal lovers. Last month, they both found themselves in the same spot for similar reasons--and, in doing so, startled the staff at the City of San Antonio Animal Care Services.

In late May, during Texas' torrential downpours, Justin Kalk was driving down a four-lane highway when he saw a tiny animal trying to cross the highway. The car in front of the police officer almost hit the little critter. Justin did a U-turn, then stopped traffic to scoop up a kitten drenched to the bone. The cat looked up at its savior and meowed.
The Texas cop took it to the city's animal shelter, where the staff wrapped it up and fed it. (It's now up for adoption.) A few days later, the shelter staff were startled to see another police officer who looked awfully familiar drop by with a dog in his arms.

It was none other than Todd Kalk (who does look like his brother)--and he'd rescued the dachshund pup from a near-death experience in traffic, too. The dog had been darting in and out of cars at a busy intersection when Todd found him. After a fruitless search for any owners, the Texas police officer had brought him to the shelter.
Both brothers have a message for the public: If you see an animal in danger, please stop (if you can do so safely) and rescue it.
