Trying to explain acts of destruction to kids is tough--how do you answer their innocent questions without frightening them? Well, if you are looking for some pointers, watch how this dad does it.
The subtitled video starts when a French reporter asks a little Parisian boy accompanied by his father if the boy understands why the terrorists carried out the attacks in Paris. The child answers, "Yes, because they're really really really mean." Then he pauses and says his family has to be careful now and even change houses.
His dad gently tells his son not to worry. "We're not going to move. France is our home." The boy says, "But, Daddy, there are bad guys and they have guns. They can shoot us."
The dad's answer is simple--and eloquent. "We have flowers," he says. And explains to the boy why flowers--and love--can trump the bad guys every time.
This video only lasts a minute--but the effect of this dad's simple but powerful message will last for a long time.
