Some vintage recipes are better left in the past--savory Jell-O aka aspic, anyone?--but this delightful pie is certainly not one of those. None of us had ever heard of the Pixie Pie until we stumbled upon a 1955 ad for the outrageously delicious looking dessert, and we think that’s a crying shame.
The pie, which Baker’s chocolate company claims to be so delicious that it can turn “husbands into sweethearts (and vice versa!),” seems almost completely forgotten.

There’s no mixing or rolling dough for a crust with this genius recipe. Instead, you use butter and shredded coconut to create a thin, nutty crust that’s toasted to perfection before getting doused with plenty of chocolate-laced egg custard filling. If you’re anything like us, you’re already drooling over the tropical toasted coconut and chocolate combination.
To make it as pretty as the vintage ad picture, garnish the pie with a ring of whipped cream--made by hand if you want the whole dessert to be truly authentic--and drizzle on plenty of melted chocolate.
We think it’s underselling this luscious confection to say it can only win over husbands and sweethearts, though. We would bet that a slice of this sweet could even turn an enemy into a best friend. Why don’t you whip one up and find out?
