It's true that once your kids leave the nest, they quickly get so busy with their lives they forget those childhood rituals they once loved. Like, say, dinner with their grandparents.
This past week, Kelsey Harmon's grandfather invited all six of his grandchildren over to dinner. All the grandkids were home from college, so Papaw wanted to celebrate by cooking them burgers and serving them his homemade ice cream (a special treat they'd loved when they were younger).
Kelsey showed up at the appointed hour, but she was the only one. After 30 minutes of waiting, Papaw started in on his burger--and Kelsey snapped this photo and posted it to Twitter.
Within a matter of hours, people all over the world were retweeting the photo, which struck a chord. Everyone felt sorry for Papaw. Some posted messages about how much they missed THEIR grandparents. "This breaks my heart. I'd do anything to eat dinner with my grandparents again,” one person wrote.
Finally, Kelsey and her cousins had to take to Twitter to tell people their grandpa was fine--and he appreciated becoming famous. She told Buzzfeed that he knew all his grandkids loved him. And she added that she was grateful that the tweet had been shared. "It's made young people realize how important family is,” she told the news site.
