Here's a move guaranteed to make every dog owner cheer: O'Hare Airport has just opened a dog-friendly restroom in one of its terminals. About two million pets fly with their owners every year, according to the Department of Transportation. And while many of those pets travel by crate in cargo, service dogs and smaller breeds who fit into a carry-on are allowed onboard the plane.
If your dog fits one of these categories, then you know how difficult it is to give your pooch a potty break if you've got a layover--or if your dog has to go after you've checked into security. That's why O'Hare joins the airport in Detroit in offering these special restrooms.
They are pretty swanky. There's some turf-covered mats complete with mini-hydrants (to make dogs feel more at home). After a dog does its business, little pop-up sprinklers wash away the waste. Bags are provided--and there are sinks where human owners can wash their hands, too.
So thanks, Chicago! Let's hope this is part of a trend!
