Many produce foods last longer and taste better after you put them in the fridge. But this doesn't mean you should do this for all crops. Now, experts are saying there is one food in particular that you should keep away from your refrigerator at all costs.
Potatoes should never go in the fridge, according to the British-based Food Standards Agency. The reason for that is because when a potato is in the fridge, the starch is converted to sugar. And when said potato is baked or fried, the sugars combine with an amino acid and produce a chemical called acrylamide, which is thought to be harmful for humans.
In fact, this chemical has even been linked to cancer in some animals.
So the next time you buy potatoes, remember to store them in a cool, dry, non-refrigerated place.
