“My husband and I refurbish old houses, so we are always looking for that diamond in the rough. Recently we bought an old Victorian with original crystal chandeliers, gorgeous stained-glass windows and beautiful hardwood floors. We knew it needed months of work, but once it was finished, it would be a grand showplace.
“One day, I went to the house to check on the new plumbing, but for some odd reason I couldn’t unlock the front door. It had worked many times before and I knew it was the right key. Frustrated, I peered through the dusty windows, then went back to the porch, jiggling the key over and over.
“Suddenly, I heard a crash that made me jump. I looked in the window and saw that the chandelier in the foyer had fallen and shattered to pieces.
“A cold chill ran down my spine as I took a deep breath to try to slow my racing heart. If the door had opened, I probably would have been standing right under the chandelier, or at the least, been badly cut by flying shards of glass. With a shaky hand, I tried the key again. This time, it slid into the lock with ease and turned without a hitch.
“I slowly opened the door and stepped in, smashed crystal singing as I pushed it across the floor. I stood in amazement, silently thanking my guardian angel who was on watch that day.”
