Sixteen years is a long time to live with an animal, but that's how many years Lisa Beech, and her horse Jake have been together after the Kentucky native bought him at a farm sale.
So when Beech suddenly went into hospice care after a long battle with cancer, her daughter, Amanda Sturgill, hit upon a plan so the two could say goodbye one last time. Along with a few close family friends, she brought the horse to the hospital, while her mother--without knowing why--waited outside.
Sturgill told The Dodo that her mom's face lit up when she saw Jake coming. And Jake, normally a bit lazy, marched right up to Beech as if he knew it was going to be the last time he saw her. "This really shows that if you give your heart to an animal, they'll give you theirs right back," Sturgill noted.

Although the visit left everyone in tears, Sturgill said her mom was glad it happened. "That's the happiest I've seen her in a very long time," she commented.
