Just like the bread always falls butter (or peanut butter) side down, oil spills and splatters always seem to happen when we have our nice clothes on. And unlike unobtrusive stains like a drop of coffee on your jeans, an oil splatter really stands out.
Before you go through the whole hot water treatment followed by a vigorous round of scrubbing the garment to death, check your cupboards and garage for some white chalk. Rubbing a stick of plain white chalk on the stain is all the pre-treatment you need. Let the chalk-covered stain sit for an hour, then throw the piece of clothing in the washing machine as usual.
Voila! Good as new, like the strain never happened. You can attribute this borderline-magical effect to the chalk, which soaks up the grease before the washing machine eliminates any residue.
