“A few years ago, my son, who was a police officer, was killed during a routine traffic stop. Christmas was his favorite time of year, so when the holidays rolled around, they were just a cruel reminder that my Matthew was gone. The memories of him in his red sweater, drinking eggnog and singing along with his favorite movie, White Christmas, was almost too much to bear.
“One afternoon, I braved going into a card shop in the mall to find an ornament for my sister. All the magical lights and beautiful decorations made me grieve more for my son, and for the millionth time, I wished he was with me.
“Suddenly, I heard a tinkling tune. A snow globe on a nearby shelf began playing “White Christmas.” I stood in awe as it played the entire song and I felt my son’s love surround me, giving peace to my heart.
“‘Is this it for today?’ the cashier asked as she rang up the snow globe. I nodded with a smile. ‘It’s all I need.’”
