“One of my fondest memories from childhood was going fishing with my dad. I inherited his little boat when he passed away, and when my son was old enough, I took him out to continue the tradition.
“One day after an hour of casting our lines and enjoying the sunshine, swollen storm clouds rolled in. When I yanked the cord to start the motor, it sputtered and died. I tried again and again, but no luck. Fear fisted my stomach as the wind howled and a bolt of lightning pierced the sky. Try one more time, Cupcake, a voice whispered. I was startled. That was the nickname Dad called me. Frantic, I yanked the cord again, and the motor roared to life…we got back just in time.
“The next day, my husband checked the engine and gaped in confusion. ‘It’s burned out,’ he said. ‘It’s a miracle you got it started.’ A soft breeze brushed my cheek as I replied simply, ‘It certainly was.’" – Terri Williams, 49, Auburndale, FL
