There’s a germy little secret hiding in all of our dishwashers and, unfortunately, it’s the utensils. Yes, those exact things you use to eat aren’t getting as clean as you thought--or probably hoped.
That’s because almost all of us are making this same mistake: We’re loading our forks, knives, and spoons in the washer with the handles pointed up. That means the little handy basket that holds them in place during the rinse cycle is also blocking a lot of water and soap that should be scrubbing away the remnants of our breakfasts, lunches, and dinners. Gross.
So next time you load the dishwasher, simply give them a flip and make sure the handle is the half in the basket. Your forks will come out free of caked-on food with no special cleaning or scrubbing. Just be careful when you unload the knives.
