The very first thing you need when you're training for a marathon isn’t the strength or the endurance; it’s the right shoes. And when it comes to lifelong skincare and wrinkle prevention, you need the right products. But before you stride into the skincare aisle, you need to know which products, like running shoes, fit your specific needs.
Most of that has to do with skin type--although we’re not denying that budget is a big factor--and this simple trick will help you determine whether you have normal, dry, oily, or combination skin. From there, you can pick products crafted with your skin type in mind.
After washing your face with a gentle cleanser--make sure you’ve gotten rid of all makeup, oil, and dirt—let your skin sit naturally for at least an hour without applying any products. Try not to touch your face during this time as your hands can transfer oil to your face that will change the results. After an hour, grab a tissue and blot it around your face on all areas of your skin.
Now, inspect the tissue. If there is little to no trace of oil and your skin feels comfortable, you have normal skin. If there’s no oil on the tissue, but your face feels tight or flaky, you have dry skin. But if the tissue shows oil and your face has a shine to it without feeling tight anywhere, you have oily skin. People with combination skin will generally have some oil on the tissue and their T zone (forehead, nose, and chin) while other parts of their face remain dry and tight.
Now you can shop the drugstore, confident knowing which products will give your skin a healthy glow.
