Most teachers reward initiative, but not this one it seems. And now her harsh words are coming back to haunt her. Alyssa, a 7-year-old in Kansas, had been practicing her handwriting. Her mother, a single parent and a military veteran, had taught the girl the art of cursive, and Alyssa seems to have wanted to show off her skills. After all, she's 7--and proud that she knows how to do something so tough!

But her teacher wasn't having it. Scrawled over the little girl's homework was her note: "Stop writing your name in cursive. You've had several warnings!"
Maybe the teacher wanted Alyssa to learn the valuable art of following directions. Or maybe she wanted Alyssa to perfect her printing skills before making the leap to handwriting. We will never know. But we do remember a time when teachers were thrilled to see their students use cursive. Guess that's gone out of style.
