We're starting the week off right by sipping on this yummy berry smoothie that speeds up weight loss. The simple add-in: Flaxseed! It contains up to 800 times more lignans than any other food. These naturally occurring plant estrogens balance female hormones to ward off the health problems that plague women with age. From ages 35 to 50, women’s estrogen levels rise and fall wildly—and these hormonal fluctuations can trigger fatigue, weight gain, hot flashes and more. The good news: Researchers at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota, found that lignans steady hormonal swings enough to reduce these symptoms by up to 57 percent.
What's more, Harvard University scientists found that people who added 3 to 4 Tbs. of flaxseed to their daily diet dropped 37 percent more weight than those who didn’t.
Here’s the delicious recipe:
3⁄4 cup frozen strawberries
1⁄3 cup** nonfat Greek yogurt **
1⁄3 cup** milk**
2 Tbs.** cream cheese**
1 Tbs.** flaxseed meal, **like Bob’s Red Mill
1⁄2 tsp.** vanilla extract**
In blender, puree all ingredients and 4 ice cubes until smooth. Pour into glass. Garnish with strawberry.
