Mom Regan Long could feel her patience wearing thin. She had an ever-growing list of things to do in and around the house. And with her baby taking up so much time, she felt like she hadn't had a single moment to herself in ages.
She felt like she was about ready to snap when suddenly, her baby fell asleep in her arms.

In a For Every Mom post, Long explains how she knew what she had to do in that moment. But not before recounting all the things she had planned to do.
She wrote, "I was going to grab my two-minute shower, and if I was lucky, I was going to blow-dry my hair and maybe throw on a little makeup."
She continued, "I was going to vacuum up the crunched Mini Wheats that you accidentally spread through the living room and stairwell, and likewise clean up some of the toys that are strewn in every room but the playroom."
But after NOT checking off everything on her to-do list, she explains what she did do with four powerful words: "Instead, I held you."

She closed off her piece with these poignant words: "It turns out that my plans for this time weren’t going to accomplish what I have right here in my arms. I found my calm and the peace and the satisfaction right here, right now, because of one simple choice… Instead, I held you."
