The world watched, anxious and devastated but ultimately inspired, as Joey Feek battled cancer and made us all think twice about what it means to live and die with grace and wisdom.
The late singer captured all of our hearts by teaching us lesson after lesson about love, faith, and family before passing away a little over a month ago.
But we’re not the only ones awed by her amazing mother skills and wisdom beyond her years. One of her heroes, Dolly Parton, sent the country singer, of the duo Joey+Rory, an inspiring video message when Joey entered hospice, and now the whole country music community is trying to honor her even after her passing.
At the Academy of Country Music Awards, country heavyweights and award presenters Martina McBride and Darius Rucker honored the late singer with a prayer before the award for Vocal Group of the Year was given out. They projected a photo of her while the Joey+Rory song “Cheater, Cheater” played, a moment that concluded with the audience giving the inspiring woman a standing ovation.
To some, a musical tribute seemed fitting and quite touching. "God decided for me that my job of singing for people down here is my legacy, and he needs me singing up there. That’s how I look at it," Joey said in an interview with The Tennessean, so honoring her musical gift to the whole country music community was only natural. But some fans think she deserved more--much more.
Fans who fell on both side of the argument took to Twitter to express their opinions, which ranged from disappointment in the tribute to finding it touching and emotional. Watch the video below to see it for yourself and decide how you feel about how the academy honored the late songstress.

Take a moment to honor Joey by reading her most inspiring quotes below.
"She said that when you’re lying in a bed day after day and you can do nothing and you don’t know if you’re gonna be here next Christmas, or next month or even next week… you suddenly become hyper-aware that today… that this moment – is all you have. And that today is enough. It truly is a gift," Joey's Husband Rory wrote on his blog.
