If you’re like us, the pesky polar vortex isn’t just wreaking havoc on your heating bills, morning commute and good humor, its frigid temperatures are also sapping the moisture from your hair, making it dull, brittle and dry. To the rescue: Try this warm hair mask to restore hydration, strength and shine. Best part? It feels incredible!
To do: Combine 2 Tbs. of wheat germ oil (like Viobin Wheat Germ Oil, $8 for 8 oz., VitaminShoppe.com) and 2 Tbs. of coconut oil (or olive oil) in a small bowl, then pop it in the microwave for 10 seconds. After ensuring that it's not too hot, apply the mix to dry hair, starting at the ends and working your way up to the roots. Let sit for 10 to 15 minutes, then shampoo out. (Editor’s tip: Add a few drops of soothing lavender oil or energizing citrus oil—the aromas are guaranteed to help lift your spirits!)
*How it works: *Wheat germ oil has the highest concentration of antioxidant vitamin E of any vegetable oil, so it helps repair split ends and strengthens and protects each strand. It also has the ideal pH for hair, which helps close the cuticle to prevent further damage. In addition, the fatty acids in coconut (or olive) oil provides nourishment and intense, shine-restoring moisture.
