We've all been tempted to park in the places that are specially reserved for others--especially when we're in a rush. That's what Rebecca Landis Hayes, of Concord, NC, did when she had to stop by the supermarket. Hayes, a mom and an M.D., pulled into a space marked for veterans because, as she posted on Facebook, "it was hot. I had been in and out of my car several times already this afternoon, and I was only going to be a minute. Besides, the parking lot was full, so I just did it."

Someone saw her and wrote an angry note that Hayes also posted, calling her out for her disrespect: ""This parking is for veterans, lady. Learn to read and have some respect." So Hayes, saying it was the first time that she'd parked in those spaces, apologized.
"I’m sorry that you can’t see my eight years of service in the United Sates Navy," she wrote in a post that's gone viral. "I’m sorry that your narrow misogynistic world view can’t conceive of the fact that there are female Veterans." But mostly she was sorry that the person hadn't confronted her in person, so she could show them the military values she'd picked up during her years of service.
