Decorating cakes can be a blast, but sometimes there’s no time to do a crumb coat to keep the icing smooth and crumb-free. The easy fix: Drop tablespoon-size dollops of frosting onto the cake about 2 inches apart and spread from one dollop to another until the cake is covered. You won’t have to drag your knife over the entire cake, so you’ll avoid picking up crumbs.
