Darker than midnight and sweeter than a kiss, this chocolate cake is hiding something--and it’s devilishly delicious.
Invite the girls over, because this cake is only for the adults in the room. The ingredient that makes it so downright irresistible is a heavy dose of blackberry wine, and even if you’ve never had a sip of the stuff in your life, you’ll love what it does to classic chocolate cake.

Blackberry wine is sweet--almost too sweet for drinking, in fact. But that syrupy quality that makes it a less-than-perfect dinnertime drink is exactly what gives your cake a subtly fruit note that will surprise your taste buds bite after bite. Even better, it keeps the cake almost impossibly moist.
Can’t get your hands on the sweet Southern wine? Reach for any other bottle of a dessert wine--red if you want that deep, dark color that will make all your guests say, “woah!” Your palate won’t get overloaded, though. The frosting keeps things light with a very basic vanilla buttercream, topped with the thinnest layer of sweet blackberry preserves for a touch of tang. Just wait until you sink your fork into this one!
