Sarah Michelle Gellar Reveals Painful Diagnosis

Sarah Michelle Gellar just made a confession about her health after the birth of her first child, Charlotte. Though her daughter is now seven years old, the actress had kept her struggle totally private—until recently.

Sarah Michelle Gellar took to Instagram to share an adorable throwback photo of herself and Charlotte when she was just a baby. At first, it looked like a simple sweet memory, but in the caption, the actress made the revelation that she battled postpartum depression back in 2009, shortly after Charlotte was born.

“Having kids is wonderful, and life changing, and rarely what you’re prepared for. I love my children more than anything in the world. But like a lot of women, I too struggled with postpartum depression after my first baby was born,” she wrote in the caption.

Thankfully, she had a close support system with her, as she went on to later give birth to her second child Rocky, who’s now 5. And she had her devoted hubby Freddie Prinze Jr., with whom she recently celebrated her 14th wedding anniversary, by her side all along the way.

She added, “I got help, and made it through, and every day since has been the best gift I could ever have asked for.”

As if it weren’t admirable enough that she opened up about an oft-stigmatized health issue that a lot of new moms go through, she also had an encouraging message for others experiencing the same problem.
