Princess Eugenie’s Engagement Ring Is Just the Latest in a Long Line of Beautiful Royal Rings

Tags:

From Queen Elizabeth’s sparkling ring to Princess Diana’s iconic sapphire ring, it’s clear that the royal family has always had impeccable taste in engagement rings. The latest royal bride to have a stunning sparkler on her finger as she prepares to marry the love of her life? Princess Eugenie, the cousin of Prince William and Prince Harry who will marry wine merchant Jack Brooksbank in less than two weeks.

Princess Eugenie’s engagement ring is truly exquisite: It features an oval, coral-colored sapphire called a padparadscha that’s surrounded by diamonds. When Jack and Eugenie announced their engagement earlier this year with a series of portraits taken at Buckingham Palace, Jack was asked for the story behind the beautiful gem choice. “I went and found an amazing padparadscha sapphire,” he said, “but then didn’t want to do anything until Eugenie had signed off on it.” Clearly, this is a man who wants to make sure everything is perfect for his bride-to-be!

Why Royal Family Rings Are So Valuable

Princess Eugenie’s ring is just the latest in a long line of important royal family jewels. Other than being an unmistakable part of history, royal family rings also carry an irreplaceable sentimental value, touching on moments that are close to the family members’ hearts. For instance, Meghan Markle’s engagement ring from Prince Harry was no exception: the piece of jewelry features two diamonds from the collection of his late mother, Princess Diana.

“The ring is obviously yellow gold because that’s [Meghan’s] favorite and the main stone itself is sourced from Botswana,” Harry said at the time of the couple’s engagement in a BBC interview. “And the little diamonds on either side are from my mother’s jewelry collection to make sure that she’s with us on this crazy journey together.”

Did that romantic Meghan and Harry story reminding you of the way that his brother, Prince William, proposed to Kate Middleton with his mother’s ring? You’re not the only one.

Back in 2010, William said, “[Kate’s engagement ring is] my mother’s engagement ring, so I thought it was quite nice because obviously, she’s not going to be around to share any of the fun and excitement of it all — this was my way of keeping her close to it all.”
