There’s something about the phrase “meatball sub” that instantly makes your mouth water. All the appeal of spaghetti and meatballs wrapped up in a roll so you can take it to go? Yes and please.
But this blogger’s tiny tweak to the classic sandwich has us rethinking all the past subs we’ve ever settled for. Yes, the meatballs are homemade and stuffed with mirepoix and spices. Yes, the sauce is spiked with white wine. But it’s the bread that has us begging for a bite.
Instead of the classic bread, the blogger behind Cooking for Keeps upgrades hoagies into buttery homemade garlic bread and uses them as the buns. It might be a little messier, but we’re willing to lick our fingers clean if it means never eating another meatball sub on regular bread again.
(In case you’re wondering, yes, this sub really is worth making everything from scratch.)
