Happy Birthday, Kate Middleton! The Duchess Celebrates Her 40th Today
Kate Middleton reached a big milestone: Today is her 40th birthday! We may have expected (okay, hoped for) a big party with lots of pictures, but that’s not the way the Duchess of Cambridge wants to celebrate. It would be a little out of character – she’s never been the flashy type.
Royal expert Katie Nicholl revealed to Entertainment Tonight that the Duchess is having a lowkey celebration with a close-knit group. “I think we are going to see the Duchess celebrate her 40th — it is a milestone birthday, it’s an important birthday,” Nicholl explained earlier this week. “I think there will be a celebration, but I think it will be a celebration for family and for close friends.
“There was talk of a big party which has apparently been downscaled because of Covid and because of the restrictions. But I suspect that Kate is probably happier having something a little bit more low-key. She had a big 21st birthday but I think that was the last big birthday that she really, really celebrated.”
Ultimately, the decision is up to the Duchess. We’re just happy to know that she’s enjoying her day with her favorite people! And while she does so, we’ll celebrate with a little nostalgia. Check out these gorgeous pictures of Kate Middleton from over the years.

2015: Attending Christmas Service With the Family
We love a beautiful royal hat, and Kate Middleton’s emerald green hat from 2015 does not disappoint. The Duchess wore it and the matching green coat (which promptly sold out as soon as fans found it online) to a Christmas Day church service at Sandringham on December 25, 2015 in King’s Lynn, England.
2020: The BAFTA Awards
Just before the pandemic hit in March 2020, the Duchess stunned crowds in a gold and white Alexander McQueen gown at the BAFTA Film Awards on February 2, 2020 in London. Abiding by the awards show request (that all attendees rewear a gown in a nod toward environmentalism), the Duchess chose this one, which she previously wore during a royal tour of Singapore, Malaysia, and the Solomon Islands in 2012.
