Being a first responder means you're prepared for anything that comes your way--and handle the situation with grit and grace. In this particular case, Officer Alameda, of California's Highway Patrol in Monterey county, became a hero for his quick thinking--and thick skin.
The highway patrolman was driving on Highway 1, the picturesque road that hugs the coastline from San Francisco to San Diego Near the Marina beach he saw something two feet from the highway's edge--and immediately pulled to a stop.

It was a stranded sea lion, who'd somehow wandered from the ocean to the highway. He immediately rescued the beautiful male pup and put the animal in his truck. And what did the sea lion do in return? He bit Officer Alameda!
Of course, the police officer realized that the sea lion may have been biting him in a friendly, playful way--his way of saying thank you. The two made up and the pup is now in good hands at a nearby marine mammal center, according to the highway patrol's Facebook page.
