Struggling to Find Keto Foods? A New Free App Removes the Guesswork

One of the most common reasons why people abandon their diets is because eating plans are hard to stick to — especially when it comes to ready-made foods. Nutrition labels can be super confusing, particularly for people following restrictive eating plans like the keto diet. But it doesn’t have to be that way anymore, thanks to a newly launched app called Pinto.

Here’s how it works: Pinto collects nutrition information from more than 100,000 of the most commonly eaten foods in the United States. The app then creates personalized, user-friendly nutrition labels that focus specifically on any ingredients or nutrition information that users may be concerned about, such as the amount of carbs in a dish. After you download Pinto, all you need to do is create a profile with all your specific dietary needs, input a product you’re interested in buying, and let the app do all the hard work from there!

In other words, say goodbye to scratching your head in the grocery store as you wonder whether a low-carb food fits the keto diet. Pinto instantly alerts its users to any foods unfriendly to their specific diets — including keto, paleo, vegan, Whole30, and more. This is especially helpful if you or a loved one has food allergies; you can set the app to alert you if it contains allergens or any potentially harmful ingredients. As Sustainable Brands reports, one of the major perks of the app is that it can help reveal how much sugar is actually inside a certain food; some companies obscure the amount by using words such as “high-fructose corn syrup” and “sucrose.”

“There’s a tremendous amount of data and information that’s potentially out there about food and about nutrition, but the way that data is sourced and the way that it gets to consumers isn’t really from the lens of what a consumer today needs,” said Pinto CEO and founder Sam Slover in an interview with Fast Company. “Essentially what we’re able to do is, given any user and their diet, we pull out the exact information you need to know about a product.”

The best part? The app is free to all its customers. So not only does it save you time when figuring out what to eat, it may also save you money you might have spent on another service while trying to figure out all your diet’s confusing requirements.
