This Skincare Line Is for Women in All Three Stages of Menopause

Tags:

Taking care of your skin is important no matter your age, but as we enter menopause, our skincare needs can change quite a bit. From unexpected wrinkles to pesky dryness, you may find that the trusty moisturizer you’ve used for years just isn’t cutting it anymore. That’s why it’s so awesome to hear about a new skincare line developed specifically for women going through menopause.

Pause Well-Aging aims to create products that celebrate the ever-evolving beauty of women and help make the less-fun parts of menopause (hello, hot flashes!) a little better. Founder and CEO Rochelle Weitzner was inspired to launch the brand after experiencing her own first hot flash.

As the renowned cosmetic executive recalls, “During the summer of 2017, I was driving to the beach and suddenly found myself sweating. I mean really sweating. So, I cranked up the A/C and was ready to crack a joke about the heat when I noticed everyone else in the car was shivering. And then it hit me: I was 48 and this was my first hot flash.”

She panicked, but it didn’t take long for her anxiety to turn to productivity. Six months later, Pause was born out of Rochelle’s desire to inform and empower women to make the most out of menopause. Through the Pause products now available online and an online support community, Connect the Dots, Rochelle is determined to do just that.

The products currently include a hot flash cooling mist ($39, Pause), a collagen-boosting moisturizer ($72, Pause), and a fascia stimulating tool ($115, Pause). The moisturizer is designed to firm and tighten up skin to diminish the appearance of fine lines. The fascia tool is meant to boost elasticity and minimize sagging while enhancing skin health. And as you can probably guess, the cooling mist is a convenient way to calm your skin down when you can’t take the heat of a hot flash — or perhaps on a balmy day. What makes these items different from other skincare products? According to Rochelle, it’s all in the ingredients: a research-based fusion of vitamins, antioxidants, and compounds shown to improve the visible signs of skin aging and damage. The “coolest” part of all? These products can be used by women in all three stages of menopause: perimenopause, menopause, and postmenopause.

According to Mayo Clinic, most women start perimenopause in their 40s, but some begin as early as their mid-30s. Perimenopausal symptoms — this is when they are the most intense  — can include hot flashes, irregular periods, and mood changes. While it might be difficult to tell when you hit menopause, an easy way to pinpoint it is to keep close track of your menstrual cycle. When it’s been 12 full months since your last period, you’re officially in menopause. Every day after you’ve reached menopause is considered postmenopause, and this lasts for the rest of your life.

As Rochelle proudly declares: “You may notice we don’t use the word ‘anti-aging’ because what’s there to be against? Beauty doesn’t peak at any one point in your life — it keeps evolving. So, we’re calling it well-aging. The actual process of aging and menopause doesn’t need disruption, but the conversation around it does. Our story is far from over.”
