Mother Katrina Ryder was on an online hunt for Christmas gifts on Cyber Monday when her 3-year-old daughter literally cut her off from the computer. The little girl put her fingers on her mother's typing hand and yanked it off the keyboard.
"I’m trying to buy you presents! Don’t you want presents?" Ryder said to her daughter.
"I don't want presents. I just want you to come play with me!" her daughter responded.
Ryder wrote about the powerful effect that her daughter's reaction had on her in a For Every Mom post, with a particular emphasis on the realization she came to.
Ryder wrote, "She doesn’t want presents; she wants presence. My presence. She just wants to be with me, enjoying my company. And I should want the same thing, shouldn’t I?"
She realized that she had been sucked into the vortex of online coupons, social media, and other web-based distractions. So Ryder decided that during the Christmas season, she was going to spend most of her time away from screens.
"I’m going to try to offer my presence, my focus, my attention, and my time to those who are in my real life," she said.
Sounds like a start to a much merrier Christmas for the whole family!
