A mom blogger is getting a lot of attention for revealing her belly to the world after giving birth to her second son. That act alone doesn't seem too revolutionary. But it's how many times she did it over a period of several weeks that has moms everywhere applauding in solidarity.
Julie Bhosale, mom of two and writer at The New Mum’s Nutritionist, decided to publicly bare her stomach for her followers at different points in time after giving birth, including 24 hours, 1 week, 10 weeks, and 14 weeks postpartum. And it was all for the sake of showing the reality of her changing belly after giving birth.
Bhosale wrote, "You live in a society that pushes images at you every day of women who have given birth and just 'bounced back'–great for them (truly, that is great, Kate Middleton you are amazing!). But this is such a small minority. For most of us, our bodies change, and change a lot. It is scary, it is hard, it can be downright disgusting and upsetting but it is real and normal."
That being said, she bravely shared what she--and a lot of other new moms--saw when she looked in the mirror.
As you can see, Bhosale didn't really get to see a difference in her post-baby bump until about two weeks had passed. And even then, it still wasn't exactly time to get rid of the maternity clothes just yet.
For Bhosale, it took her about three and a half months before her belly looked at least somewhat like what it did beforehand. But Bhosale doesn't want any new moms to compare themselves to anyone--including her.
She wrote, "You may not look like the next Victoria’s Secret Underwear model, but focus on how you feel."
We salute you, Julie! And by the way, you look beautiful in every photo.
