When you're a cat named Mr. Handsome, it's basically a given that the internet will fall in love with you. Add to the mix the fact that you're also a 31-pound purring machine and hundreds of people — literally — will wait to adopt you.
The Chatham County Animal Shelter in Pittsboro, NC, posted a photo of the not-so-little fella asking if anyone recognized him, and since then the listing has gone viral with more than 2,000 comments and 15,000 shares.

"Does anyone know this cat? He is 31.4 pounds! He clearly had someone feeding him but was brought in as a stray cat," reads the post.
According to the Huffington Post, a man brought Mr. Handsome to the shelter after noticing the cat hanging around his house. Tiffany Foushee, a shelter attendant at the shelter, said Mr. Handsome is too big to fit in a kennel, so he's been lounging around in a cabinet in the break room. Too funny!
“He loves being petted, he loves to be brushed,” said Foushee, who is pictured holding Mr. Handsome in the Facebook picture. “He’s a really good boy.”

Unfortunately for all the people who have expressed interest in adopting Mr. Handsome, the kitty must stay at the shelter under a stray hold. This gives the owner enough time to come forward and claim his or her stray. If no one comes to get Mr. Handsome, he will then be available to the public for adoption.
That said, if you want to bring home Mr. Handsome, you'll have to wait in line. Mr. Handsome received so many adoption requests that the Chatham County Animal Shelter is planning to hold a raffle. The winner will still have to be approved by the shelter, so rest assured that he will be going home to a loving family.
Foushee is happy for all the attention that Mr. Handsome has brought the shelter, but she wants people to know about all the other cats there that are available.
“I know he’s special because he’s 31 pounds, but in our shelter, for instance, we have 60 cats here not including him,” she said. “There are tons and tons and tons of cats out there.”
