This cool cocktail gets its sweetness from fresh fruit. And picks like limes, apples and raspberries are packed with polyphenols – antioxidants shown to increase the activity of energy engines within cells (called mitochondria). The result: The body becomes more efficient at using glucose and oxygen, providing an instant burst of fuel to power you through your to-do's.
What’s more, increasing intake of fruits rich in vitamin C (like citrus, mangoes and berries) can boost metabolism by at least 11 percent, according to researchers at Arizona State University at Tempe. That’s because the vitamin promotes the synthesis of carnitine, an amino acid that plays a key role in the burning of fat for energy.
Here’s the yummy recipe:
4 sprigs** fresh mint**
3 slices green apple
3 slices cucumber
2 slices lime, halved
1 tsp. sweetened lime juice, like Rose’s
1 cup lime seltzer, chilled
1 oz. white rum
In glass, combine all ingredients, pressing on mint and fruit to release flavors.
