Meghan Markle will soon be one of world's most recognizable women, so it makes sense that a lot of people are curious about Meghan Markle's family. After all, the Suits actress flew mostly under the Hollywood radar until she started dating Prince Harry in 2016. Shortly after the news broke, she became one of the most highly searched names on Google. Now that the adorable pair has announced their engagement, we're sure the fascination with all things Meghan Markle will only grow — much like it did with Kate Middleton and Princess Diana before her.

Meghan Markle's Family

First things first: Let's take a look back at her roots — with each member of her family. These are the people who helped make her who she is today. Much like their famous relative, they each have a unique story of their own.

Meghan Markle's Mom

Meghan Markle's mom is named Doria Ragland (not 'Radlan', as many outlets have incorrectly reported), and she is extremely close with her beloved daughter. Other than being a devoted mom, Ragland is also a yoga instructor and social worker at Didi Hirsch Mental Health Services in California, working specifically with older folks. Meghan has publicly praised her mother's professional and personal accomplishments on numerous occasions.

Markle wrote in Glamour: "For me to watch this level of life-long sensitivity to nurturing and caregiving, but at the same time my mom has always been a free spirit. She's got dread locks and a nose ring. She just ran the L.A. Marathon. We can just have so much fun together, and yet, I'll still find so much solace in her support."

Ragland is African-American, and Markle has spoken about many challenges her mom has faced because of her race — and ones that she herself has faced as a mixed race woman. Though she has described those challenges as "staggering," she also called them "illuminating" in an essay for UK Elle.

"While my mixed heritage may have created a grey area surrounding my self-identification, keeping me with a foot on both sides of the fence, I have come to embrace that," she wrote. "To say who I am, to share where I’m from, to voice my pride in being a strong, confident mixed-race woman."

It couldn't be clearer where she got that strength and confidence from.

Meghan Markle's Dad

Meghan Markle's father, Thomas Markle, was the lighting director on the '80s sitcom Married With Children. Though her parents split up when she was two years old, Meghan says she doesn't remember ever seeing them fight while she was growing up.

"We would still take vacations together. My dad would come on Sundays to drop me off, and we’d watch Jeopardy! eating dinner on TV trays, the three of us. We were still so close-knit," she said in a Vanity Fair interview.

Clearly, the pair still share a strong relationship today, and he reportedly knew about her dating Prince Harry from the very beginning.

On Father's Day in 2016, she wrote a special message for her father on her Instagram page: "Happy Father's Day, daddy. I'm still your buckaroo, and to this day your hugs are still the very best in the whole wide world." Adding, "Thanks for my work ethic, my love of Busby Berkeley films & club sandwiches, for teaching me the importance of handwritten thank you notes, and for giving me that signature Markle nose."

Aww! We're tearing up already.

Meghan Markle's Half-Siblings

Samantha Grant, originally Samantha Markle, Thomas Markle’s oldest child from his first marriage, has been vocally critical of her half-sister, describing her as a "shallow social climber" and reportedly working on a book with the working title The Diary of Princess Pushy’s Sister.

However, after the news of the engagement broke, she described her half sister on Good Morning Britain as "creative, charming, full of life, vibrant and she’s never changed. She’s overwhelmingly happy."

Here's hoping they patched things up!

Meanwhile, Thomas Markle Jr., who is Meghan Markle's other half-sibling from Thomas Markle's first marriage, says he is still close with his half-sister — despite a few run-ins he had with the law — and has spoken publicly about her relationship with Prince Harry.

He said, "I think it is wonderful. As long as he takes care of and loves Meg, he doesn't have to do anything else."

He added that Prince Harry is a "lucky man."

Sounds like the seal of approval from us! We wonder if we'll get to see the whole Markle family at Meghan Markle's much-anticipated royal wedding. Stay tuned!
