Mary Tyler Moore Has Passed Away at Age 80

UPDATE (1/30) — It’s with heavy hearts that we report that the cause of Mary Tyler Moore’s death has been revealed. According to UsMagazine.com, the beloved icon died of cardiopulmonary arrest, which means that her heart simply stopped beating. According to TMZ.com, aspiration pneumonia, lack of oxygen to the tissues, and diabetes mellitus also contributed to Moore’s death.

We’ll continue to keep Mary, her husband, and her dear friends and family in our thoughts and prayers.

UPDATE (1/25 2:50 p.m.) We’re heartbroken to learn that beloved actress Mary Tyler Moore has passed away. She was 80.

Moore’s comedic talents and all-American beauty made her a Hollywood icon. The Emmy Award-winning actress’s star-turn in The Mary Tyler Moore Show, a 1970s comedy about the life of a professional single woman, was considered a cultural and feminist milestone.

Moore’s longtime rep, Mara Buxbaum, issued a statement to TMZ saying, “Today, beloved icon, Mary Tyler Moore, passed away at the age of 80 in the company of friends and her loving husband of over 33 years, Dr. S. Robert Levine. A groundbreaking actress, producer, and passionate advocate for the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation, Mary will be remembered as a fearless visionary who turned the world on with her smile.”

TMZ also reported that Mary had been on a respirator for more than a week.

UPDATE (1/25, 1:44 p.m.) Sad news: We’re devastated to learn that beloved actress Mary Tyler Moore, 80, is in grave condition at a Connecticut hospital, according to TMZ. The actress is currently surrounded by close family at the medical facility, and they are reportedly preparing to say their goodbyes due to her critical condition.

The Hollywood icon is currently suffering from multiple health problems and has recently taken a turn for the worse, as reported by the site.

Though there is no word on why she was hospitalized, Moore has been open about her long-term battle with both type 1 diabetes and alcoholism. She also reportedly underwent brain surgery in 2011 to remove a benign tumor.

In 2015, on an episode of Larry King Now, her former co-star, Dick Van Dyke, 91, revealed that she was “not well at all,” due to her diabetes, reports TMZ. The two starred together in The Dick Van Dyke Show; she also is well known for starring in The Mary Tyler Moore Show in the 1970s.
