Make Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s Royal Wedding Cake at Home

Exciting news for foodies and avid royal-watchers alike: Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have selected their royal wedding cake.

Kensington Palace announced the exciting news on Twitter.

“For their wedding cake Prince Harry and Ms. Meghan Markle have chosen pastry chef Claire Ptak, owner of the London-based bakery @violetcakes.”

The palace then dished on the elusive flavor, confirming, “Prince Harry and Ms. Markle have asked Claire to create a lemon elderflower cake that will incorporate the bright flavours of spring. It will be covered with buttercream and decorated with fresh flowers.”

“Claire Ptak, who was raised in California, focuses on using seasonal and organic ingredients in her cakes,” a second tweet reads.

Are you drooling yet? Because we certainly are! And while this isn’t the exact recipe for Harry and Meghan’s lemon and elderflower cake, it’s sure to hit the spot for anyone who wants a taste of the royal side of life.

Ingredients for Cake

  • 4.5 oz. unsalted butter, softened

  • 6 oz. caster sugar

  • 2 eggs

  • Zest of 1 lemon

  • 6 oz. self-raising flour

  • 1/4 tsp. of salt

  • 4 Tbsp. milk

Ingredients for Icing

  • 3.5 oz. powdered sugar

  • 4 Tbsp. elderflower cordial

  • Zest of 1 lemon

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350 Fahrenheit. Adjust oven shelf to lowest position, then place an oven tray on the shelf.

  2. Sift flour into a medium bowl three times, add salt.

  3. Mix butter and sugar together, beat in eggs and lemon zest.

  4. Add flour and salt, mix until smooth.

  5. Add milk.

  6. Spoon mixture into prepared pan and bake for 45 to 50 minutes in the oven until a skewer comes out clean.

  7. Mix powdered sugar and elderflower cordial. This will form a runny icing.

  8. Once cake is baked, remove from oven and poke holes into top of cake with skewer.

  9. Pour runny icing over the hot cake.

  10. Top with lemon zest.
