Sleeping sans underwear seems to be slightly more popular than keeping it on in bed, at least according to a Glamour magazine survey: When asked, 56 percent of women preferred to go commando while 44 percent admitted to wearing their panties as they snoozed.

Those 56 percent may be on to something--at least if they suffer from chronic vaginitis or vulvitis. Usually caused by bacteria or a yeast infection, the symptoms include constant itching, pain, and discharge, making your private parts feel inflamed.
Wearing underwear at night can provide the perfect breeding ground for these bacteria, which thrive in moist, dark places, Dr. Alyssa Dweck, an gynecologist and professor at the Icahn School of Medicine in New York City, told LiveScience. If you go bare-bottom underneath your nightgown (or loose-fitting pj pants), you give that area a chance to air out--and dry out.
