Do You Meet the Requirements to Be on ‘Fixer Upper’?

Tags:

As Chip shouts “demo day!” and Joanna envisions where she wants to artfully place some shiplap, it’s hard not to wish you were the lucky family getting a brand new home on HGTV’s Fixer Upper. So why not take that fleeting thought and make it a reality? Here’s what you need to consider before applying to be on the show.

1. You don’t get the final say. Even though it’s your house and your hard-earned money, the designers and producers get the last word when it comes to design of your new home. They will of course ask what your needs and wants are and hopefully take those requests into consideration, but, sadly, you don’t get veto powers.

2. Be willing to spend at least $30,000 on renovations. If you’re looking for a new home but you only want to make minimal renovations, then Fixer Upper isn’t the show for you. Buyers are required to spend at least $30,000, and, of course, Joanna will almost certainly propose you spend a portion of that on a pergola with a homemade wooden table. That’s no small chunk of change, so if you’re determined to be on the show you better start saving!

3. Your new home has to be within a 40-mile radius of Waco, Texas. We all know Chip and Joanna Gaines are loyal Waco residents, so it’s not surprising that they require applicants live in the vicinity of their gorgeous farmhouse. While Waco is certainly a lovely little city that could charm an out-of-stater into moving, this is sad, sad news for those of us who aren’t Wacoites.

Who knew applicants had so much to consider? While Chip and Joanna certainly have some very costly demands, there’s no denying the pair do an absolutely fabulous job. Your move!
