Most of the time, fourth-graders who refuse to solve a problem on their math homework are given a talking to. Not this time. The reason Maddy Douglas gave for skipping a question is getting cheers from people all over the world.
The math problem asked kids to figure out a complicated high-school dating scenario that involves four high-school guys going out on four dates each with four different girls. (Are you following this?) All the boys seemed to have gone out with the same four girls--just at different times. The question: "For each of the 4 times, tell which girl dated which boy."
Maddy's response: "I can't answer this problem because my mom says acoording [sic] to girl code you shouldn't date a friends x boyfriend." Her mom, Jenn, posted her daughter's answer to Facebook with the hashtag: #girlcodetrumpscommoncore.

The teacher's response is equally on point
And though Jenn Douglas considers herself open-minded, she told the Huffington Post that her first reaction was "it was not an appropriate question for a fourth grader or really any grade."
The teacher apparently agreed. When Maddy turned in her homework, Douglas said, the teacher wrote, "Good point!"
