If you shower every day, you might be doing your body more harm than good.
According to Professor Stephen Shumack, President of the Australasian College of Dermatologists, the pressure to shower daily is based on societal pressure, rather than actual necessity.
"It's become popular because of the social need to smell good," Shumack said. "But it's only the glands in your armpit and groin that produce body odor. They're not all over the body.
As it turns out, research suggests continuous washing and rinsing might actually be taking off essential oils on our skin. And this can cause painful and irritating skin conditions in the long run. Over-washing can lead to itchiness, dryness, flakiness, and even eczema.
So to prevent that, Shumack says you should only shower when you need to. Makes sense to us!
