For as long as we can remember, babies born in hospitals would spend much of their time in one of two places during their first couple of days outside the womb: in the arms of their new family and friends or in their tiny, wheeled bassinets in a nursery, along with dozens of other babies in tiny, wheeled bassinets. While that first, cozy location isn't likely to change anytime soon, the second one might thanks to this incredible new bed design.

Moms who stay beyond the typical postpartum time at Gelderse Vallei, a hospital in the Netherlands, enjoy these beds with a clip-on "manger," as the hospital's site calls the attachment for the baby. It's safer than mom and baby sleeping in the exact same bed, a known SIDS risk, but puts the two closer than the standard totally separate bassinets. And when you spend nearly 10 months sharing a body, this setup can provide a smoother transition to the whole new life.
