You don't have to eat a grapefruit at every meal to reap the benefits of this citrus wonder. Researchers at the Scripps Clinic Center for Weight Management in California found that study subjects who ate just half a grapefruit each day lost a whopping five times more weight than those who skipped the fruit. The reason: Grapefruit contains two plant compounds (nobiletin and naringin) that work to switch off fat-storing genes while also switching on fat-burning genes.
