When someone touches your feet do you squirm like crazy and double over in discomfort? Having ticklish feet can be a nuisance, but most doctors will say it’s actually a good thing.
Podiatrist Dr. Michael Nirenberg suggests that lacking any ticklish sensation could indicate a problem in your nerve receptors caused by illnesses such as diabetes, arthritis, vitamin deficiencies or thyroid malfunction. So, we should be thankful for that knee-jerking feeling.
On the other hand, some may be so afraid of tickling your feet because they're so smelly!
With over 250,000 sweat glands in your feet, they can produce up to 500ml of sweat a day--which can cause the unpleasant stench emanating from your socks. To avoid this undesirable condition, make sure to keep your feet clean and well-ventilated so that odor-inducing bacteria cannot thrive in your shoes. If the smell still persists, however, it’s important to see your doctor, as this could denote a more serious health problem such as hyperdrosis (excessive sweating).
And if all this wasn’t enough to satiate your desire for "foot knowledge," here are some additional quirky facts that are almost too crazy to believe!
Feet are growing! According to the UK's College of Podiatry, the average shoe size is now two sizes bigger than in the 1970s.
Turns out not all starlets have dainty feet! According to Kate Winslet, Leonardo DiCaprio would constantly tease her about her notable size 11s. "I would put my foot up and he would fall about laughing because my feet are exactly the same size as his," she said. "He referred to them as my canoes."
Do you have darkened skin on your toe pad? Take note: it cold be a sign of depression: "When people are depressed, they put all their weight on the front of their feet when walking," says foot reader and author, Jane Sheehan.
If you've ever been embarrassed about your big feet, they're probably nothing compared to those of Jeison Orlando Rodriguez Hernandez. The 20-year-old from Venezuela currently holds the Guinness World Record for having the largest feet--at size 26.
Even if you don't have an Egyptian foot shape, there are other indicators that you may have trust issues. If one of your toes is squeezed underneath another, this can be a sign that you don't typically wear your heart on your sleeve.
